The Environment Agency is developing a long-term plan (known as a strategy) for the coast between Thorpeness Village and the southern end of Orfordness spit and for the Alde and Ore Estuary (see map).
This strategy is the combination of two separate studies, the Thorpeness to Hollesley Strategy Study and the Alde and Ore Estuary Strategy Study. The two study areas are closely linked by physical processes, environmental features and local interests. A single strategy will therefore provide the opportunities and benefits of an assessment for the combined study area.
The Strategy sets out the aims and approaches to flood and erosion risk management, taking into account a broad range of local interests and issues.

The aim of the Strategy is to promote sustainable flood and erosion risk management schemes for the next 100 years, whilst taking account of economic, environmental, technical and social issues.
