Who will be consulted about the Deben
estuary strategy study?
The results of this continuing process will be used in the appraisal
of options and the selection of a preferred strategy. Organisations
and individuals that have expressed an interest at this stage will
again be consulted on the more detailed strategy options and the final
preferred strategy. A Strategy Report including the findings of the
technical and economic appraisals and the Strategic Environmental
Assessment will then be published following the confirmation of the
preferred strategy. Approval of the Strategy will then be sought from
Defra, statutory consultees and the wider Deben estuary community
before implementation of the Strategies findings can be carried out.
The Strategy Consultation Groups
Two consultation groups have been set up to aide the development of
the strategy for the Deben:
The Suffolk Estuarine Strategies Consultation Group
An overarching consultation group for the Blyth, Alde and Ore and
Deben estuaries has been set up to provide guidance on the requirements
of UK law, local government policy, planning issues and initiatives
in the region and provide comment on project objectives for the Strategy.
The group is made up of representatives of the District and County
Councils, English Heritage, English Nature, the National Farmers Union,
Royal Yachting Association and the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Management
Unit.
The Deben Strategy Consultation Group
A consultation group made of representatives of the local community
has also been set up. The Consultation Group will provide guidance
and information on and about local issues and provide comment on local
objectives to be considered in the development of the strategy. The
Deben Consultation Group consists of key stakeholders from the local
community which include; Suffolk Coasts and Heaths Unit, the Environment
Agency, The National Trust and English Nature, local Parish Councils,
the River Deben Association and sailing, business and farming interests
and many other groups.
